So it's been three months since I last posted. I really didn't mean to make that long. Really. I promise. Life has been a busy blur since coming back home after an incredible summer! (For of those you who don't remember I worked at Camp Dry Gulch this summer. The entire camp looks like an old west town and the Gospel Bill movies were made there.) Alumni weekend was a couple weekends ago. It was a great weekend! Lots of laughs, late nights, seeing friends, and deeper revelation from the Lord. Many of you were there. Many of you weren't. Those of you who didn't make it were missed. Well, after getting my pictures developed, getting pictures from friends, etc I'm pleased to finally present some pictures of my summer. Enjoy! This is just part of the Town Square. (If you grew up with Gospel Bill, like I did, it may look familiar. Almost all the buildings were bunk houses.) This was my first group of girls. Man, oh, man no words could express this session. It was definitely the hardest. Everything and anything that could go wrong went wrong. I even had to have General (the director of the camp) come talk to them one night before bed. There were a few nights this session where I would go to bed wondering what I had gotten myself into. Even though it was hard I was so glad for this session I learned lots and it broke me in for the rest of the summer. There were many fun activities that kept us busy day including: The Survivor. This is my good friend Natalia and one of her girls sitting on top of the slide at the Survivor. (I love this picture!)
The blob! I don't think I ever really got the hang of blobbing kids (some days I was just fine and other days I could hardly stay on it myself).
Wild Rapids! It was an inflatible water slide! So much fun!
This was such a great group. The girl on my shoulders was 7 and a half. (She was was so tiny! She told me one day that when she was a baby she a hole in her heart.) The Lord reminded me of something we heard during orientation one night after praying for her and that was we never know who these kids are going to be. They could be the next Billy Graham. I just had to sit on her and look at my bunk in awe that the Lord was using me to make such an etermal impact in such a short amount of time. And who knows how the Lord is going to use her for His Kingdom.
This is Marcel. My hero. She's only 10 years old, but has been through 20+ surgeries, is constantly in pain, etc all because she's missing an enzyme. She never complained and had such a great attitude.
Around the halfway point of the summer I was so blessed to go see my old roommate Megan Clark get married. (All the details for me going, getting there, etc. worked out in less then a day! Praise the Lord!) Eternally Stranded with the NRA.
It was so funny cause throughout the summer I had been thinking about my 2nd semester Core Advisor Tara and just how much I learned about leadership from her, how some things I did were things she did with our core, etc and during the 4th of July weekend (the same weekend of the wedding) I was thinking I need to call her and tell her all this. Well, as I was getting my food at the reception in walks Tara! Yeah, I about dropped my plate. My (unofficial) mentor in leadership Tara and I.
Shortly after the wedding I got back into the swing of things for the rest of the summer. As the summer continued on there were some things you just didn't expect to see. Such as Elizabeth showing off her lost tooth. Her parents work at the camp year round and she was definitely one of the cutest girls ever! She hung out with my bunk one day and she was so much fun!
Or Gospel Ninja. (Ok, so he came to chapel once each session, but still you never knew how the kids on the floor were going to react as he flies over them.)
Miss. Jennifer visiting us in the off bunk.
As the summer drew to a close we wanted to leave with no regrets. The three of us decided to jump in pool during the block party.
Me with curly hair! What?
The games in chapel got a little weirder and messier. The counselor had spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, and water dumped over her.)
Some partners in crime and myself. (I think it's funny were all wearing our brown staff t-shirt. We didn't plan it haha.)
Having fun at the block party.
The three Texas girls and myself. (Yes, my shirt is backwards on purpose.) For the four of us it was our first summer, we all worked at the same, had off at the same time, etc. So we got to know each other real well.
Then, for the very last session of camp my church came! I had off and so it was great to hang out with some of my favorite people. (And get involved in some of the well known water gun fights between the sponsors from my church and the sponsors from a church in Louisiana.) These are the two from my church you got to watch out for. Mrs. Heidi and Mrs. Brandie!
My cousin Megan and I hanging out by the go kart track. My buddy Hunter and I.
Some other buddies of mine and myself.
Riding the banana boat with the sponsors from my church.
Me and my ladel hat.
Oh my goodness I can't believe I almost forgot this picture! This is General and I! He's the Director of Camp Dry Gulch and the best boss ever! Seriously! I had heard all this great stuff about him before arriving and after our first session at orientation I knew I was going to love working for this man. No words can express what a blessing he is and how much I learned from him. "We all live in a glass house. Everything we say and everything we do will be repeated thousands and thousands of times." - General
Well, there's a small taste of my summer for you. Hopefully it won't be another three months until I update again. |
